we did a few images last month for an annual report for BioRad, a book I’ve worked on for a few years. The art director, Jim Curl at 405 Group did a cool treatment to make the book look like a ledger. He used images of a ledger for the cover, spine and inside edges of the book. Illustrations and photographs inside were laid out over a background print of a ledger.

Stanford physician for BioRad annual report

Years ago I photographed this inspiring woman for an editorial project.  Last month she contacted me and told me she was going in for a bone marrow transplant, her second bout with cancer.  She wanted to know if I would photograph her.  I remembered her immediately – and we spent a wonderful rainy San Francisco afternoon doing some images by the light of her living room window before she was to enter the hospital the following week.  I was so moved by her story, I asked her to recount her thoughts in a short video piece we shot the same day.
